Iwona Van Niekerk is a contemporary artist whose work blends abstraction with figurative elements, drawing inspiration from her multicultural journey. Born in Poland, Iwona has lived in Copenhagen, London, and now Perth, Western Australia. Her work explores the complexities of feminine identity, inspired by people, architecture, and the intriguing shapes of objects. Combining influences from cubism, surrealism, and abstract expressionism, her art is characterised by a harmonious balance of geometric forms and organic shapes. Iwona is currently expanding her knowledge of art by studying History of Art through an online two-year course. Her achievements include winning the 2023 Public Choice Award at the City of Stirling. A member of the Art Conversations WA and Ellis House Art Centre, Iwona was pursuing Fine Art studies at Curtin University before postponing to focus more on her artistic practice. Through her art, she seeks to create pieces that invite viewers to craft their own narratives, celebrating beauty, introspection, and the transformative power of visual art.
